Chris and I packed up the suburban and headed south to Peace River Campground with 4 kids in tow and we met the Stypinskis and Spragues (minus the mom). When we got there we set up camp and all the kids 9 of them wanted to fish in the small pond next to our site so anyone that wasn't a toddler trekked over to the pond with poles in hand. Felicia loved playing in the car while we put up the tent and then we set a fire and relaxed, listening to the sounds of the ATVs passing to go to the pit and drive. The parade of golf carts was very interesting to say the least about them.
Friday after a yummy breakfast of eggs and bacon made by Chris the kids played until the sun came out from behind the clouds then I packed everyone up and we headed to the river. The kids had a paddle boat and used that along with a mud pit, a cliff of soft sand, a river bed to find fossils and sharks teeth and of course fishing and swimming. There was so much to do that the parents just watched and they played and had a great time being a kid. My heart grew each moment watching them run and play most of the day. During the day Eagan and to go #2 so Chris took Felicia for the ride and for the first time in ages she fell asleep in the car. When we got back they rode bikes and fished while we made dinner and watched for Monica to come from work. After dinner we sang happy birthday to Peighton who turned 7 years old. We had bunny cake then enjoyed the fire until our kids asked to go to bed. That rarely happens so off we went to the tent. Felicia was already asleep in the tent, she was so, so good this weekend.
Saturday morning started with Monica cooking bacon then big Aaron and I worked together to make pancakes. I mixed and placed then on the skillet while he cooked them and plated them. YUMMY, everything was gone. The sun peaked out earlier today, 9:30 am and we started to pack everyone up for the river. We enjoyed 6 or 7 hours of pure fun. Chris' dad joined us from Stuart for the day. Today we brought my kayak down and everyone took turns going up the river, some with kids and other times alone. Chris' dad photographed an alligator but no one else saw one. It was a glorious day. Later after our fajitas and taco bowls Caleb came over to Chris and told him, "dad I don't think fishing is my best sport" of course we wanted to know why and it was because he hooked himself. I told him he caught the biggest thing of the weekend, he just laughed. We ventured up to the playground to wait for the ice cream social to start and Kala, the Sprague mom, finally arrived. Everyone enjoyed ice cream and petting a bunny, back to make a fire and tell stories. Of course we had s'mores every night by the fire. Felicia was so tired from no nap that she was out by 8:30.
Sunday is always a sad morning because that means we are going home. Chris made the meat and pancakes while big Aaron made eggs in a bag, he boiled the bag of eggs and they were very good. The parents packed up in record time and Chris and I took the kids down for little more fun before we headed home. Now that the mini van was returned and packed, I took Felicia in the van and went home. Chris followed behind after rinsing the boys off in the pool he left for home. He followed the Spragues with their trailer and helped changed the blowed tire that happened just before the Sky Way bridge. The place was just over an hour away so we were unpacked before 2 pm.
I had a fabulous weekend watching the kids play but was sad to see one of them playing favorites and had to "bring down the hammer" but someone has to keep order and usually it is me. Everyone should have fun, not just the most dominate one. This was the hardest part of the weekend.
GOOD TIMES!!!!
